Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve broken or chipped a tooth. What should I do now?

Please call us as immediately after the damage happens. We will arrange an appointment to see you within 24 hours. It’s important that you see a dentist promptly, even if you are not in any pain. Repairing the damaged tooth quickly will prevent further issues from occurring at a later date.

What counts as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any problem which requires immediate attention. This could be an injury, infection, or severe pain. If you’re not sure whether you require emergency treatment, please call our friendly team who will invite you for an appointment if necessary.

One of my teeth has been knocked out. Can you help me?

A tooth being knocked out is a serious dental emergency. Please call us to make an appointment as soon as it happens. The faster we can see you, the higher chance that the root can be saved.

Immediately after the tooth is knocked out, please attempt to reinsert it into the socket to protect the root. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, please clean and bring it with you to your appointment (if you have it).

I’m suffering with a dental abscess. What should I do please?

Dental abscesses require immediate treatment. If not treated, abscesses can cause serious problems. Please call us to arrange an appointment as soon as you are able. Our dentists will provide treatment for the infection to heal the abscess.

What if I need to have a tooth extracted?

Tooth extractions are only done when it is not possible to save your natural tooth, and your dentist will always try to save it wherever possible. If the tooth must be removed, your dentist will discuss your options with you regarding extraction and possible dental reconstruction.

If I’m not registered with the practice, can I still make an emergency appointment?

Of course. We will still aim to treat you within 24 hours of your call – even if you are not a registered patient with us.

I really need to be seen immediately. Would I be better to visit Accident and Emergency?

A&E is not an ideal place to receive treatment, except in extreme cases of excessive bleeding, breathing problems due to swelling, or swelling around the eyes and neck.

Emergency departments generally do not have the equipment or expertise necessary to manage dental emergencies. Please contact us and our team will arrange to see you as soon as possible to address your issue.
